About Maggie's Functional Organics. Wearing organic doesn't mean you have to wear tie dyes and munch on granola. Organic and natural fiber clothing have come a long way!

Maggie's began with marketing Organic Tortilla chips. One of their farmers recommended adding cotton to the crop rotation to improve the quality of the corn. His experiment worked. However, his cotton yielded a crop and they were expected to sell it!

After learning the harsh facts of conventional ( chemical) cotton cultivation and garment manufacturing, they began making garments a different way - using their farmer's Organic cotton. Maggie's started with socks and then added tee shirts. These were simple products that would encourage the use of Organic fibers. Afterall, everyone needs socks, don't they?

Upholding their commitment to social responsibility, Maggie's began to take control of what they could. In an industry dominated by sweatshops, Maggie's was forced to find viable alternatives. By partnering with Jubilee House, a community development organization, and pledging our sewing contracts, we've been able to inspire the creation of "Maquiladora Mujeres", a 100% worker-owned Sewing Co-Operative in Nueva Vida, Nicaragua. The co-op became the first worker-owned cooperative in the world to gain Fair Trade Zone status!

With their successful partnership with The Fair Trade Zone, they have been inspired to pursue other projects. Maggie's has been instrumental in a group of South African textile workers developing a worker-owned cooperative.

Most of Maggie's socks are made in the USA! Currently, they are passionately pursuing a domestic worker-owned cooperative that will exclusively knit our best-selling Cotton Crew Socks.
