With all of the pet food recalls, more people are opting to make their own food. This is the best way to control what goes into your pet's body. Please check our forum for additional recipes that have been sent to us by our customers as well as our colleagues.
Q Which foods could be dangerous to my pet? A. Some foods which are edible for humans, and even dogs, can pose hazards for cats because of their different metabolism. Some may cause only mild digestive upsets, whereas, others can cause severe illness, and even death. The following common food items should not be fed (intentionally or unintentionally) to cats. This list is, of course, incomplete because we can not possibly list everything your cat and dog should not eat. Some foods are on the do-not-feed list. These include:
- High-fat junk food (potato chips, doughnuts, etc.)
- Avocado (guacamole)
- Chocolate
- Alcohol or caffeine
- Fruit pits
- Persimmons
- Table salt
- Onions
- Apple seeds
- Mushrooms
