What makes Austrian Pumpkin Seeds so unique?
Styrian pumpkins are unique because the seeds have lost their wooden shell
due to a mutation about 100 years ago. Only a tiny silver-coloured membrane
protects the seed. This soft consistency of the seeds facilitates efficient
pressing of the oil. The final product is a thick, dark green oil that has a
nutty flavour and is used primarily as a salad oil, but also to refine soups and
other dishes. Styrian Pumpkin Seed Oil has tremendous health benefits. Oddly
enough, if you happen to have a very finicky dog, he or she will go crazy over
its food if you drizzle a little bit of oil on its food.
In an article on Prevention.com, clinical herbal advisor Douglas Schar,
DipPhyt, MCPP stated, "In the early 1900s, pumpkin seed was used to treat
enlarged prostate symptoms and other urinary tract complaints."
"Pumpkin seeds contain protective compounds called phytosterols, which may be
responsible for shrinking the prostate,
says Schar. They also contain chemicals that may prevent some transformation of
testosterone
into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). High levels of DHT are associated with enlarged
prostate."
To help prevent BPH, Schar suggests eating a handful (about 1 ounce) of
shelled pumpkin seeds three times a week. Pumpkin seeds are sold in health food
stores and grocery stores.
The Austrian Pumpkin Seed Oil* and the Styrian Pumpkin Seeds* are the
only Styrian delicacy that are really hard to come by, unless, of
course, you can find a company to export the limited supply of product.
OrganicUniverse.com works directly with the importer who has been representing
the farms for several decades.
Make no mistake! Our Styrian pumpkin seeds are only grown in Austria's
Steiermark and have the certification from the Austrian government. There are
many other seeds floating around the supermarkets that originate from China but
the quality is very clearly not up to par with the seeds from the
Steiermark.
Please note, these seeds are for human consumption only. They are not to
be used for germination. If you are looking for agricultural grade seeds, you
must contact the Austrian government.
